On the other hand, if your eyes are turned to the world, 24,000 bicycles In Paris, 8,000 bicycles In London, 6,000 bicycles in New York, Montreal and Barcelona and 5,000 bicycles in Taipei are in full operation. These scales are 10 times more than Japan.

When we think about the difference between the scales, the way of thinking about bicycle in Europe and America is very different from ours.
They have a clear sense of purpose in bicycle use.
First of all, it is an environmental problem. (Traffic congestion and exhaust gas control)
Secondly, it is an energy problem. (Saving of a fossil fuel)
Thirdly, it is a health issue. (Reduction of medical expenses)
Of course, besides the reason above, there are many other advantages as well as sport, leisure, sightseeing, and convenience in town riding.

In Japan, although the above sense of purpose seems to be still unpopular among citizens, sooner or later, it is clear that it will be also needed in Japan.
Then, what kind of role has the bicycle played in the city traffic system?
There are a short distance railroad (tram), a subway, a streetcar, a bus, a taxi, etc. in an urban transport system.
Although these are important public traffic systems, a share cycle (community cycle) complements these.

It is expected that a share cycle play a messianic role in the ripened urban transport system.
For building this wonderful share cycle system as continuous system in all over Japan, we establish a "Japan Share-Cycle Association " to contribute to development of the urban transport system of our country by doing various researches.
